What is AGSVA and why do you need a sponsor?

Who AGSVA is

AGSVA is part of the Department of Defence. It handles the vetting for Baseline, NV1 and NV2 security clearances across Australian Government and Defence industry. AGSVA checks your identity, your background, your character, and your foreign contacts against national security policy.

Why you cannot apply directly

Australian policy says clearances are tied to a purpose. You must be sponsored by an accredited organisation that has a real need for you to hold a clearance. This stops the system being used casually and keeps the clearance tied to actual work.

The most common sponsors are the Australian Public Service, the Australian Defence Force, and Defence industry businesses that hold DISP accreditation. Logi-Tech is a DISP Level 3 accredited sponsor. That means we can sponsor Baseline, NV1 and NV2 clearances directly through AGSVA.

What a sponsor actually does

The sponsor confirms your identity, confirms you are an Australian citizen, submits your application into AGSVA, manages your file across AGSVA processing, and holds compliance responsibility for you while you are cleared.

Why this matters if you do not have a Defence job yet

Most people find themselves stuck. Employers want cleared candidates. AGSVA needs a sponsor. And you cannot get a job without a clearance or a clearance without a job. This is the sponsor catch-22.

What it costs

Fees are all-in and include AGSVA fees, GST, and 12 months of sponsorship. Baseline is $2,750. NV1 is $4,730. NV2 is $7,370. From year 2 there is a $550 annual sponsorship fee.
